We do NOT handle California speeding tickets.
Speeding tickets in California are a big
deal. The
fines are high and the process can be difficult. Also, insurance rates
are high so if your rates get bumped up, that can cost a lot of money.
We've read various sources and one thing
struck me. If you
want a trial you have to pay the fine up front, and if you win the
Court gives you your fine back. Sounds like you're presumed guilty
until you prove yourself innocent.
California
handles traffic tickets in its Superior
Courts. You can challenge your ticket by mail, called trial by
written declaration. We've heard both good and bad stories about
this process.
For
many tickets, you can go to traffic school and
that will keep the ticket off your record and protect your insurance
rates. If you get too many tickets or are charged with a "serious"
offense, that option may not be available.
California
has a point system, and the DMV can revoke
or suspend your license (or driving privilege for an out-of-state
driver) if you accumulate too many points. See the
CA DMV point system
page for more detailed information. Tickets from other states do count
against a California license. If you get a traffic ticket in NY, we
can help.
