Speeding tickets in New York City are handled
differently than in other parts of New York State. In most of the rest
of New York State, traffic matters are handled in town
courts (as well as village and city courts). NYC has special
"administrative courts" handling speeding and other traffic violations.
This is called the Traffic
Violations Bureau.
Unlike most other parts of the state, there is no
deal-making on tickets in NYC. It's either win or lose. Some lawyers
have told me they can still make deals, and others have indicated that
the police officers often do not testify well and they win a fair
number of cases.
